ESPN Reverses Course..Allows Employees To Speak on Trayvon Martin Tragedy

Thanks in large part to The Big Lead, lesser extent BSO and many others who got a hold of the information from ESPN informing employees they should tread lightly on speaking about the Trayvon Martin tragedy, they have decided to reverse course on the issue.

It went as far as ESPN forcing some employees to take down Twitter and Facebook pics of them wearing Hoodies in support of Travyon.

As you can imagine this caused a lot of anger and frustration with ESPN about some of the hypocrisy in their social media policies.

This is what they had to say today via a press release.

After some internal discussions at ESPN on the topic, this press release arrived via spokesman Josh Krulewitz: “It’s a tragic situation that has led to much thoughtful discussion throughout the company. As a result, in this circumstance, we have decided to allow this particular expression of human sympathy.”

Don’t think your voice doesn’t matter. If this information was never released by The Big Lead and made its way into mainstream media, social media, forums, and etc, who knows if ESPN changes its position.

Also, it shows at least ESPN listens and understands at times they need to allow some freedom of expression within their organization not just when it is of benefit to them.
