Kenya Bell was the only woman on the current season of Basketball Wives who was still married to a basketball player. It she appears on another season, that will no longer be the case.
Her husband Charlie Bell is filing for divorce.
Former NBA’er Charlie Bell filed the papers in Michigan Court — claiming there was a breakdown in the marriage.
Kenya — presumably separated from Charlie at the time — was famously arrested in May 2011, after allegedly breaking into the couple’s home and attacking Charlie with a box cutter in front of their children.
Kenya was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic violence — but struck a plea deal in which she avoided jail time … pleading guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence.
Both Kenya and Charlie have had run ins with the law.
The box cutter incident is what most people know about (Kenya Bell Arrested, Assaults Husband NBA Player Charlie Bell With Box Cutters). While TMZ says Kenya pleaded to a misdemeanor charge there are other reports the charges were drop. Either way she didn’t spend any time in jail.
Charlie has had some incidents with alcohol including a DUI and then showing up to court drunk (Warriors Charlie Bell Showed Up To DUI Hearing Drunk).
You can’t be pretty bright to show up drunk to a DUI hearing. Bell is currently playing overseas and not in the NBA.
The couple have been married for over a decade and have young children, so in the end you hope they can find a happy middle ground at least for the children.
