Phil Jackson States He Would Have Never Coached Knicks, Says Carmelo Doesn’t Pass Enough

I was in the minority when I said there was no way Phil Jackson would ever coach the Knicks. Not with the way the roster was currently constructed.

Phillip confirmed my suspicions.

Although Jackson hasn’t ruled out returning to the NBA entirely, he did rule out coaching for the New York Knicks prior to the team hiring interim head coach Mike Woodson full-time. In an interview on HBO’s “Real Sports,” Phil Jackson said, “I wasn’t going to take the job, that’s for sure.”

Jackson said he felt the Knicks roster was “clumsy” and the players “don’t fit well together,” noting Amar’e Stoudemire needs to be in a specific system and that Carmelo Anthony didn’t pass the basketball enough.

Jackson did say there was a NBA job out there that might lure him out of retirement, I would gather it would either be the Heat or Clippers, knowing Jackson’s history.
