Patriots: 41
Texans: 28
No one gave the Texans much of a chance to do anything against the Patriots, who infamously thrashed them in Week 14.
Now fast forward to today’s AFC Divisional Round, and the Patriots once again, went right to work. An early touch down by Shane Vareen, who practically glided into the end zone set the tone right away. Brady was spot on with his main targets in: Welker, Hernandez and Vereen all night–all three collected over 83 yards receiving for the night. Gronkowski however, was lost for the rest of the post season with an injured forearm suffered in the first quarter.
The Pats’ lead soon swelled to 17-3, and the Texans offense finally decided to make an appearance for their first touch down. Before the half the Texans nailed the 55-yard field goal to bring the Texans within 4 points of the Pats. But it was the Pats who still remained hot, and Brady and crew failed to give an inch.
By the time the 4th quarter came the Patriots lead climbed to 38, while the Texans stayed still at 13. The Texans launched a small comeback as time ticked off the clock, but they came up short. Patriots prevailed 41-28, to advance to the Championship round which will be a rematch of last year’s game vs the Ravens.
Brady threw for 344 yards with three touchdowns, and made history eclipsing Joe Montana’s all time playoff wins record for his 17th win. The only thing that matters for the Patriots are Super Bowl rings, so the real challenge will be next week where they’ll face a very bitter Raven’s team licking their lips for revenge. Game on.
