Urban Meyer Is On The Hunt For Oregon Recruits After Kelly’s Departure

You can call Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer a lot of things, but make sure you call him one of the best recruiters in all of college football.

Meyer can smell blood  in the water and with the departure of Chip Kelly from Oregon to the NFL, Meyer again is on the prowl.

The Oregonian is reporting that Meyer is definitely trying to poach recruits from what was already a so so class to begin with.

Meyer has the advantage of explaining to those recruits that Ohio State runs a similar if not the same offense as the Ducks do.

John Canzano is reporting that several recruits who may not have been on Ohio States radar or were but set on the Ducks now have visits set for Columbus.

Dontre Wilson, a 5-foot-10, 174-pound running back from Texas, committed to Oregon last spring. He now plans to visit Columbus this weekend. Meanwhile, Ohio State celebrated Kelly’s NFL announcement by rushing Buckeyes offensive coordinator Tom Herman to San Diego to visit four-star wide receiver DarrenCarrington Jr., another UO recruit. Also in San Diego, Ohio State offered two more critical Oregon commitments, twin basketball/football stars Tyree and Tyrell Robinson, scholarships after the Eagles-Kelly business went public.

New head coach Mark Helfrich hasn’t even had a chance to see what his new office looks like.  Moments after being named new head coach, Helfrich and his staff set out on the road to visit every Ducks commit and ensure them things would stay the course.

Helfrich has assured recruits that the offense would only be tweaked, and that players such as De’Anthony Thomas would still be featured but in different facets of the game and not just at tailback.

Helfrich will have to ensure that there’s no drop-off with the players Kelly recruited, but then he has to make sure he can recruit the same quality of player as well.
