Gut punch there by Coach Self…
Last night, the #5 ranked Kansas men’s basketball team was upset 62-55 by TCU, an opponent that was previously win-less in Big 12 conference play.
The final score fails to paint the whole picture. The Jayhawks were held to only 13 first-half points en route to their 2nd straight loss, which led head coach Bill Self to make his gut punching proclamation.
“I assess the whole game as, what’s the right word? Futility?” Self said. “I don’t know how to describe it. It was awful. Even as bad as it was, which it was horrendous … Offensively, that is as bad as you can play. We got off to such a bad start, and obviously it got worse from there.”
“It was the worst team Kansas has ever put on the floor,” Self said emphatically. “Since Dr. [James] Naismith was there. I think he had some bad teams and lost to the YMCA the first couple years.”
You know you’re coach is mad when you’re the 5th ranked team in college basketball and he compares you to a rec league team at the Y.
Hopefully these comments light a fire under his players and inspire better play, but to be honest instead of ripping me in the media I would’ve just preferred him to do it in the locker room and run me to death in practice.
