If you thought Glen Davis had a tough task trying lead Orlando back to relevancy in the Eastern Conference post-Dwight Howard, try this for a challenge: The 6-8, 290 pound forward/center is turning to a vegan diet.
SlamOnline.com (via The Orlando Sentinel) reports that Davis, who is out for the season with a broken foot, is going vegan in an effort to lighten the load he’s putting on his surgically repaired foot.
“The lighter, the better,” Davis told Josh Robbins of The Sentinel. “No pressure on that foot. I’m just trying to find ways to eat comfortably and also have a little bit of taste. It’s difficult, but at the same time, it’s about your mental mind-set. You’ve just got to stay with it.”
“Mental mind-set” is right. Going vegan in a tourist-friendly city like Orlando that boasts a Charley’s Steakhouse (try it, you’ll wonder why anything else is fit to be called “steak”)? That can’t be easy for any converted vegan, let alone a man Davis’s size.
Kudos to Davis for doing what he has to do to get back on the court at full-strength next season.
