The Atlanta Falcons are trying to give quarterback Matt Ryan a mega contract extension and to do so they have to cut some salary.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Falcons are set to release stud right tackle Tyson Clabo. Â Clabo has been made 101 starts since joining the Falcons in 2006.
Clabo has started every game since 2008 and made a pro bowl in 2010. Atlanta is currently on $2.5 million under the cap, and cutting Clabo would free up about $4.5 million more, which they could use on a Ryan extension.
That could end up being a giant hole on the right side of the line. Clabo is possibly the Falcons best lineman, and why pay Ryan a ton of money if you can’t protect him.
