Old school Yankees fans who still use the phone as their method of ordering tickets may have been left confused as the old toll free number for Yankees tickets is now a sex hotline.
The amusing news was reported by the NY Post and unsuspecting fans who google for the Yankees box office number are given the old 1800-913-9793 number.
Once dialed a sultry toned female voice guides callers to x rated phone chats, hook-ups and dates for anyone 18 and older. “Welcome to America’s hottest talk line,” “Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press 2 to connect free now.”
The number is listed under the team’s official website, and the spokeswoman for the Yankees, Alice McGillion, has alerted fans that the number hasn’t been in use since 2009,
“It’s not a Yankee issue. It’s an idiosyncratic thing with Google,”
She also explained that the number was a temporary one used for seat relocations from 2008-2009 and that the team has no control over what happens once another team takes over a phone number.
Certainly a hilarious story nonetheless, so let this be a lesson to those still insisting to do things the old way–buy online.
