Maurice Clarett to Play in Rugby Match in Ohio

Maurice Clarett

Maurice Clarett seems to be trying to fill that competitive void left in him after his once promising football career ended prematurely.

According to a story courtesy ESPN, the former Ohio State running back, is set to give rugby a shot. Clarett will suit up for the Columbus affiliate of Tiger Rugby, which is a rugby developmental program for choosing the team that participates in the Olympics for the United States.

Clarett was sent packing from Ohio State after one year for a scandal involving improper benefits, and this was after a season where he rushed for 1,237 years and 18 touchdowns and helped the program whin 2002 BCS National Championship.

The Denver Broncos drafted Clarett in the third round in 2005, but released him before he played a single game. The former Buckeyes running back’s life continued to spiral out of control following that disappointment as he was sent to prison for 3.5 years for robbery and weapons charges.

The Ohio Rugby Sevens Invitational is set to take place in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, on May 25, hopefully Clarett doesn’t screw up this opportunity to turn his life around.
