Ohio State President Gordon Gee, has announced he plans to retire, just days after controversial comments he made about Notre Dame and Catholics were released to the public.
Gee’s remarks drew the criticism of many, including Rick Pitino, Gee decided it was time to “turn over the reins of leadership,” effective July 1.
Executive vice president and Provost Joseph A. Alutto will be named interim president, but one former Ohio State legend and troubled former athlete, thinks he has the perfect replacement for Gee.
Maurice Clarett led the Buckeyes to a national title in 2002, and even after being dismissed from the university, has still maintained a close knit relationship with some in Columbus.
The one person he has the closest relationship with, is Clarett’s choice to become president. In a Tweet that he eventually took down, Clarett suggested that former Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel should be named president.
Not sure if Clarett was joking or serious, but he caught enough backlash to remove it shortly after posting it.
