Chicago Bears received news today that defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis plans to retire from the NFL at the perceived prime age of 28 and won’t be reporting to training camp as reported by Yahoo Sports. Ellis was the #7 pick in the 2008 draft and spent the first few years of his career with the New Orleans Saints.
Ellis pocketed over $30 million in five seasons in the NFL, becoming an unrestricted free agent in March. His most prolific season came in 2010 when he recorded 6 sacks. However, his contributions were amiss the last two seasons. No word has come directly from Ellis as to why he’s made this decision.
