As a Buckeye myself, this puts a smile on my face. Cancer is a terrible disease and when you see it affecting little kids it just breaks your heart.
But, 12-year-old Grant Reed, just like a Buckeye, wasn’t going to feel sorry for himself, he was going to fight and face his rival head on.
According to NBC 4 in Columbus, Ohio, 12-year-old Grant Reed was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011. A member of a diehard Ohio State family, Reed nicknamed his disease “Michigan.” And now, he has reportedly beaten it.
Grant’s parents, Troy and Denise Reed, were members of the Ohio State marching band. They’ve raised their children as fans and, according to the story, Grant used that in his fight against cancer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has stopped by to visit the youngster.
And last week, he underwent his final chemotherapy treatment and, according to the report, doctors say the prognosis looks good.
“We’ve beaten Michigan for the short-term, but like any rival, there’s a chance it can come back,” Troy told the news station.
I’ll be praying for you Grant. FYI, OSU has beaten UM 10 of the last 12 times they have met on the Football field, just throwing that out there.
