When guys like Tony Romo are getting $100 million contracts, the Lions really didn’t have a choice.
I just hope Stafford’s regression last season was merely a blip on the radar and not a trend. Because I don’t necessarily think huge contracts have always led to better play.
Lions and QB Matthew Stafford are on verge of blockbuster extension that could be done as early as today, per team source.

Remember, key number to look at when deal becomes finalized is the guaranteed number and not the total value. Unless Stafford agrees to take a little less, expect the deal to be somewhere in the $45-$55 million guaranteed range.
*Update*
Total value of three-year extension for Stafford will be $53 million, putting five-year haul at $76.5 million. $43 million guaranteed.
