Jason Kidd is considered by some to be the greatest Brooklyn Net ever not named Julius Erving.
Kidd was a bona fide star for the Nets, led them from jokes of the NBA, to back to back Finals appearances during the mid 90’s.
The Nets only have six retired numbers, including Julius Irving (32), Buck Williams (52) and Drazen Petrovic (3). Reports are surfacing that Kidd could be the seventh player to have a jersey retired.
The funny thing is the report didn’t come from a news outlet, but from players during the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot. Nets rookie Mason Plumlee was asked about why he chose his jersey number, and leaked the information about Kidd.
Mason Plumlee – Brooklyn Nets – 1: “I wanted 5, 5 is what I wore in college. I don’t want to spoil it, but I think [the Nets] are going to retire it [for Jason Kidd]. 21 was what I was going to wear next and then they were said KG might want 21. Then 00 was taken so I went with the next number, number 1
The report may be accurate. Kevin Garnett will wear 21, and not his customary #5. no Net has worn 5 since Kidd was traded to Dallas five seasons ago.
