David Stern Says D-League Educates 18-Year Olds Better Than NCAA

David Stern thinks the D-League prepares 18-year olds the best for the NBA.

The NBA’s Development League (better known as the D-League) has always been perceived as a joke. Fans would make fun of players that got sent to the D-League, because it meant you weren’t good enough.

Things have changed over the past couple of years. The D-League has improved it’s talent pool, more players are opting to play in the D-League over going outside the country.

One thing that hasn’t changed is elite high school players skipping college to play in the D-League.

David Stern believes that’s a better route for one and done prospects.

“I’m very proud of the development league. It’s working. That march is continuing. The drumbeats I hear about colleges not liking what they refer to one-and-done . We now have a rule where the development league will accept players that are 18 and will do a better job of educating them than the college programs they are in.”

Imagine if the D-League is able to get the Andrew Wiggins’ of the world in the near future.
