After the dust settled in the Monday Night Football matchup between the 49ers and the Redskins, the final score was 27-6 and the Redskins managed to muster up only 30 yards of total offense in the second half. In response to the debacle, NBC Sports reports that Mike Shanahan declared that his team had been “embarrassed” by the 49ers.
“We went against an excellent football team that dominated us. We haven’t got dominated like that since I’ve been here. Congratulations to them. They’re very well coached. They play well. We could have coached better, could have played better. We’ll do everything we can to get ready for next week. That’s the National Football League. They’re going to do that to a number of football teams. They have done it. They’re a pretty good football team. That’s one of the reasons they were in the Super Bowl last year.”
It’s fair to say that Shanahan may be correct about his assessment of his team’s performance. The Redskins players decided to leave their game in the locker room after halftime, since they didn’t show up at all for the second half of the game. More so, what was noticeably disturbing was that in all the times that RG3 was sacked or knocked down, not one of his teammates came to help him up off the turf. Either way, there is a lot of work to be done to get this team back to performing the way they had during RG3’s rookie season, and it’s not just with their on-field performance.
