The Detroit Lions gave Matthew Stafford a huge contract in the offseason, but it doesn’t seem to be panning out well for the team. The Lions saw a Monday night debacle, where Stafford threw two critical fourth-quarter interceptions a la Tony Romo. In fact, in the last five games, Stafford’s passer rating in the fouth-quarter has been less than a dismal 31. However, according to NBC Sports, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is sticking with Stafford at QB.
Schwartz addressed the media and had this to say:
“I think he’s an accurate passer. Matt’s a very mechanically sound quarterback.”
At least Schwartz isn’t running a bus over Stafford, unlike what Jason Garrett did to Tony Romo after his two interception fourth quarter against the Bears.
“I think we hold all our players to a high standard, but we also don’t publicly shame them.”
This could be taken as a shot at Jason Garrett’s coaching style, but it still remains that the Lions have guaranteed Stafford $100 million, and haven’t really had the results that they expected.
