And the drama continues…
There’s an obvious rift between the Redskins’ quarterback of the future RGIII and their current coach Mike Shanahan. Things came to a head last week when Shanahan announced that he would be benching Griffin for the last 3 games of the season.
The assumption for many is that Washington will be looking for a new head coach this offseason and according to reports RIII’s father has been lobbying ownership to hire his son’s college coach, Baylor’s Art Briles as Mike’s replacement
In recent weeks, according to two sources close to the situation, the elder Griffin has politicked Dan Snyder to hire Baylor coach Art Briles, who coached the younger Griffin to a Heisman Trophy, to replace Shanahan.
One source who has known the Griffin family for at least six years recently compared the elder Griffin to the late Earl Woods, Tiger Woods’ father and a man who many believe lived in the reflective glory of his son’s accomplishments.
This is not surprising. It’s no secret that Griffin’s father still pulls a lot of the strings. There’s no reason why Griffin’s dad should still have this much control over of his son’s life. I’ve heard reports of him sitting in on all the team meetings while he was in college. At some point he’s going to have to let RGIII make his own decisions, act like an adult, be a man. I’m sure that will help him in his career and life.
