Santonio Holmes has never been one to hold his tongue, and despite the fact that he’s oft injured, and having the worst statistical season of his career, Holmes is in a talking mood.
After Jets practice Thursday, Holmes called out the Panthers secondary, calling them the weak link of a very stout defense.
“Not to call these guys out,” Holmes said, “but their secondary is probably the weakest link on their defense.”
Holmes then tried to clean it up by saying he was being complimentary of the rest of the Panthers league leading defensive unit.
“Their front seven are guys that are really going to get after the ball,” Holmes went on. “They have really great pass rushers. We know how physical these guys are.”
Carolina allows 79.4 rushing yards per game, which ranks No. 1 in the NFL. Against the pass, the Panthers give up 216.8 yards per game, ranking fifth in the league. Carolina also has 41 sacks, the fourth-highest total in the NFL.
