Herschel Walker is the resident expert on the Dallas Cowboys, but can you really dismiss the opinion of one of the greatest all around athletes to ever play the game.
Walker of course was actually the catapult for those great Cowboys teams of the 90’s after he was traded to the Vikings for draft picks that turned into Hall of famers.
The always opinionated Walker joined GBag Nation on KRLD-FM to discuss the current state of the Dallas Cowboys. When asked about Jason Garrett, Walker didn’t hold his tongue.
Walker told GBag Nation that Garrett is not a head coach, but simply a talented offensive coordinator.
Should the Cowboys have handed off to DeMarco Murray, even if the defense stacked the box?
Herschel Walker: One of the things I’ve said many times, and forgive me for saying this, but I think Jason Garrett is an offensive coordinator. I think he’s done well as a head coach, but he’s not a head coach. He’s an offensive coordinator. I think you’ve got to get a head coach in and let Jason go back to being an offensive coordinator. The games that they lost, they should have been running the ball. Even though they stacked the box, what they’re saying then is we’re going to force you to throw the ball because you can’t throw the ball. Well you’ve got one of the best receivers in Dez Bryant in the NFL. You’re gonna tell me you can’t throw the ball? You can throw the ball. The thing is you’ve just gotta put a scheme together that’s gonna work. But that’s not the problem in losing the game. Losing the game is all the mistakes they’re making, the penalties they’re making.
You think this is a make-or-break season for Jason Garrett?
Herschel Walker: Not to be a guy that’s gonna bash my friend, because I played with Jason, but there’s not a doubt. Not to be mean, but I’m not happy with that. The way we’re losing is kind of disturbing.
