Great sign from the Captain.
After a season which was riddled with injuries, Derek Jeter took live batting practice along with fielding grounders for the first time all year.
Jeter took 39 swings in over 5 rounds of batting practice and fielded 34 grounders from short stop at the Yankees spring training complex in Tampa. Previously he was hitting in an indoor batting cage, so today was a big day in his journey back.
Jeter remained his upbeat self:
“This offseason is like a normal offseason,” said Jeter, who was in a walking boot until early January last year. “I’m four months ahead of where I was last year. Last year, quite honestly, I want to forget about it.”
Jeter turns 40 this year, and is coming off a season where every return he made from injury ended abruptly after straining something else. This year will be very telling of what the future holds for the iconic Yankee.
