Coming out of Kansas State in 2008 after averaging 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds his freshman season, there were high expectations for Michael Beasley, that year’s second NBA draft pick.
Now six years later and a NBA career that’s left much to be desired, Beasley admits that if his financial situation was better he would’ve stayed in college longer and would not try to please everyone.

“If I could tell them one thing, it would be, ‘It’s your life, it’s what you make it,'” Beasley told USA TODAY Sports. “I think my only regret, and not just with college, is trying to make other people happy all of the time. If I could do everything over, I’d do it for me.”
“I can’t say I would have stayed another year. I grew up poor, dirt poor … Everybody is different. Me? If I came from a better financial situation, I could have been there two, three or four years.”
Beasley hasn’t made the soundest decisions financially nor in regard to his career. Unfortunately, his career path from college beast to NBA bust is slowly becoming the norm rather than the exception. I wonder how his NBA career would’ve been different if he was a year or two more mature on and off the court and I’m sure he does too.
