The NCAA decided to give SMU sophomore center Markus Kennedy a wonderful surprise, a ticket to see his mother before her deployment. Kennedy’s mother, a Sergeant in the Air Force, was preparing for deployment to Kuwait for the third time. Luckily, SMU head coach Larry Brown and the school made sure that Kennedy would be able to see his mom off.

School spokesman Herman Hudson told USA Today’s “For The Win” that SMU head coach Larry Brown had sent paperwork to the NCAA asking for legislative relief to be able to pay for Kennedy’s flight, which was approved.

What a wonderful surprise, good thing the NCAA approved the plane tickets.

“I really want to thank the NCAA and the whole SMU family for allowing me to see my mom before she leaves on Monday. I can’t express this feeling thank you… #teamfoe”- Kennedy’s Instagram
