Danny Garcia-Mauricio Herrera Generates 1.1 million Views

Danny-Garcia-vs-Herrera-1.1-million-views

Danny Garcia may not be a star in boxing at this point, but he’s definitely someone to keep an eye on, and someone fiight fans actually want to see.

Welterweight champ Danny Garcia’s majority decision over Mauricio Herrera on Saturday generated a peak audience of 1.1 million viewers, Showtime announced on Tuesday.

Garcia-Herrera attraced an average viewership 972,000 viewers as the headliner of a card that included heavyweight Deontay Wilder’s 96-second knockout of Malik Scott.

Garcia’s showtime viewership improved by 26% compared to his April 2013 bout with Zab Judah, Garcia’s last appearance on Showtime.

It helped that viewers were also tuning in to see the Canelo-Angulo replay from the prior weekend’s Showtime pay-per-view, but it doesn’t diminish the fact that Garcia is becoming a household name.

Golden Boy believes Garcia is a star.

“He’s a star,” Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer stated in an e-mail to RingTV.com. “He is not a good one he is the best one.”

Garcia will be a hot name for a potential Mayweather showdown later next year, or he could be lining up for a potential showdown with Canelo Alvarez at some point in the future as Garcia eyes a jump in weight.
