Jabari Parker is still contemplating his return to Duke, but he’ll always have the honor of being a AP First Team All-American.
Parker was joined on the AP’s All-America team by Creighton’s Doug McDermott, Louisville’s Russ Smith, Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier and Cincinnati’s Sean Kilpatrick.
Parker, who is contemplating a return to Duke, averaged 19.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a freshman.
McDermott received 65 first-team votes and 325 points from the same national media panel that selects the weekly Top 25.
Parker’s 55 first-team votes and was second with 303 points. Smith had 54 first-team votes and 298 points, 44 more than Napier, who got 37 first-team votes. Kilpatrick was a first-team pick 37 times and had 243 points.
McDermott, the likely winner of the National Player of the Year Award, has been an All-America selection each of the last three seasons.
Napier is the only All-America selection remaining in the tournament.
Smith, a senior, averaged 18.2 points and 4.6 assists per game for Louisville.
Kilpatrick, also a senior, led the AAC in scoring at 20.6 points per game. He helped lead Cincinnati to a No. 5 seed but was upset in the round of 64 by Harvard.
