Johnny Manziel is a man that walks to the beat of his own drum. With the NFL Draft coming up, his stock has been the hottest topic of conversation among analysts. Mock drafts have him going anywhere from first overall to the middle of the first round, depending on who you ask.
While some NFL teams may shy away from Manziel because of his off-field issues or the fact that he basically does what he wants, whether that is sitting courtside at NBA games, or partying with Drake after winning a bowl game, Manziel is not going to change who is for anyone.
Apparently, doing whatever he wants includes not working out for the Houston Texans, who happen to own the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
According to USA Today, Texans Head Coach Bill O’Brien said that he doesn’t believe Manziel will work out for the team.
Asked if Manziel would work out for the Texans afterward, O’Brien said during Tuesday’s AFC coaches’ breakfast, “I don’t think so. He’s got his Johnny Day.”
The Texans coach was referencing Johnny Football’s Thursday audition for all 32 team evaluators.
Manziel will hold a pro day like most other top NFL prospects, but it seems he will forgo the opportunity for an individual work out with Houston.
This is an interesting decision for Manziel, who already didn’t throw at the NFL Combine, and gives teams even less of a look at him than they would probably like.
But that’s part of the Johnny Manziel appeal. He isn’t like most other QB prospects coming out of college, and he’s confident enough in himself that he doesn’t feel the need to change. It will be interesting to see how that affects his stock come Draft Day.
What do you guys think? Should Manziel workout for Houston and any other team that wants to take a look at him? Sound off in the comments or hit me up on Twitter and let me know!
