Stop me if you’ve heard this before, there’s an NBA superstar who plays power forward for a Minnesota Timberwolves team stuck going nowhere.
Just like Kevin Garnett before him, Kevin Love is dealing with yet another disappointing season as a top 10 player in Minnesota. Love is now in his sixth NBA season, and will be sitting at home watching the playoffs for the sixth straight time.
While there have been rumors, upon rumors, upon even more rumors of Love heading to the Lakers or Knicks, T’Wolves fans have held out hope that their club can put a roster around the All-Star that will convince him to stick around when he hits free agency in 2015. Unfortunately for them, as the 2013-14 regular season comes to a close, each passing game seems like one step closer to Love leaving Minnesota for greener pastures.
After a loss to the Grizzlies last night, just one night after blowing a 22-point lead in a loss to the Phoenix Suns, Love gave what might have been the saddest post-game interview we’ve seen in a very long time.
You can’t help but feel kind of sorry for Love. He’s despondent, short with his answers, and generally looks like he wants to be anywhere else right about now.
Minnesota knows that his contract is almost up and still has not been able to put a team around him that can at least sniff the playoffs in the West. As we’ve seen in the past, superstars like Love don’t usually stick around if a team is going nowhere. He wants to be in the playoffs, competing with the other stars of the league.
Something tells me we will be hearing a lot of trade talk for Love once we hit the off-season, especially around draft time when the Lakers and Celtics have what should be top 5 picks. It will be interesting to see how this plays out and if yet another NBA star leaves a cold-weather city for the bright lights of a big city.
What do you guys think? Is Kevin Love as good as gone? Sound off in the comments or hit me up on Twitter and let me know where you think Love will be playing in the future.
