Roy Hibbert Says Some Pacers Teammates ‘Selfish’

The Indiana Pacers have had an interesting 2013-14 NBA season. They stormed out of the game, starting a blistering-hot 20-3.

Like most teams in an 82-game season however, they have had their lulls. The Pacers have lost 5 of their past 7 games and now sit only a game ahead of the defending-champion Miami Heat for home-court advantage out East.

With home-court slipping through their fingers, frustration has been building for the Indiana squad. After a loss to the Washington Wizards Friday night, All-Star center Roy Hibbert let some of that frustration out to the media. According to NBA.com, Hibbert is frustrated with the lack of ball movement.

“Some selfish dudes in here,” Roy Hibbert muttered Friday night, after getting eight shots in the Pacers’ loss to the Wizards. “Some selfish dudes. I’m tired of talking about it. We’ve been talking about it for a month.”

“We play hard, but we’ve got to move the ball,” Hibbert said. “Is it obvious, or what? I don’t know whatever our assist ratio, or whatever it is, is in the league, but it probably isn’t up there. I’m really trying hard not to spaz out right now, but I don’t know. We’ve been talking about it for a month. I’m not handling the rock. I don’t know. I’ve made suggestions before and we do it for, like, one game, and then we revert back to what we are. I don’t know. I’m not the one to answer that question. It directly affects me and the bigs. We’re just out there and it makes us look bad.”

That loss Friday was followed up with another bad Pacer loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday night, so it seems Hibbert’s frustration will only continue to grow.

The Pacers are viewed by many as the only real threat to knock Miami off in the East, and if they can’t get it together quickly, they may be thinking about a wasted opportunity all off-season long.
