Astros-Angels Game Draws 0.0 TV Rating in Houston

Well, this is embarrassing.

It’s no secret that the Houston Astros are a terrible baseball team. In what is definitely a football state, and a city with an NBA team playing extremely well as of late, it’s proving to be difficult to get people to tune in to the Astros.

How difficult? Well Nielsen just released their viewership ratings for the Houston area, and Monday’s game between the Astros and Los Angeles Angels drew a rating of 0.0, seriously.

This obviously doesn’t mean that not a single soul watched the game, but it goes to show just how few people are tuning in to the Astros. The Houston Chronicle gives a little bit of insight into exactly what the rating means.

The Nielsen report, of course, doesn’t mean that no one among the approximately 500,000 or so households in the Houston area with access to CSN Houston was watching the game.

Nielsen uses a limited number of TV set-top meters to measure viewing habits – 579 were use at some point during the day Monday, according to the report. None of them tuned in to the Angels-Astros game; thus, the 0.0 rating.

This actually isn’t the first time that the Astros have drawn a 0.0 rating in Houston. Back in September of last season, Houston’s game against the Cleveland Indians also drew the dismal rating.

That last 0.0 rating came while the Astros were in the midst of a 15-game losing streak during a 111-loss season.

This most recent rating comes during the first week of the season. That can’t be a good sign for the Astros as things will likely only get worse for them as the season wears on.
