Bills fans can rest easy… Kind of.
According to Toronto Sun, whomever chooses to purchase the Buffalo Bills actually can’t relocate the team until 2023, according to a lease signed by the Bills.
Clause 3(b) in the non-relocation agreement states, in part, that without approval of both the state-appointed public corporation that owns the Ralph and the county in which the stadium sits, the club shall not “sell, assign or otherwise transfer the team to any person who, to the Bills’ knowledge, has an intention to relocate, transfer or otherwise move the team …”
The clause also prevents the team from so much as entertaining, soliciting or negotiating any offer or proposal to relocate the team.
To do otherwise would be in breach of this novel non-relocation agreement between the Bills, the NFL, the state of New York and Erie County.
It has been said that a Toronto group, Jon Bon Jovi and Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment chairman Larry Tanenbaum have been eyeing the Bills to relocate them there but with this clause, it might be hard to do. Also fans, let your voice be heard this clause can stay in place with your voice. Bon Jovi and his backers dont have to worry so much about Goodell, the fans can help legally keep their team local.
2023 is awhile away, hopefully a buyer with intentions to keep the Bills in Buffalo will come along for the fans… Trump anybody?
