Look at Richard Schaefer, setting up a potentially hot candidate to be Floyd Mayweather’s next opponent in September.
After watching Shawn Porter blast his way through Paulie Malignaggi on Saturday night in Washington D.C., the question was posed to the Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schafer, about a possible Porter-Floyd Mayweather bout in the future. Schaefer of course said he’d love to see it.
“We’ll discuss it with Al [Haymon, the boxing adviser who has Mayweather and Porter in his huge stable of clients] and with Team Porter, and why not?” Schaefer responded. “Me as a fan, after what we’ve seen that he’s [Porter’s] done with Devon [Alexander], who is an outstanding boxer, and what he’s done with Paulie, who’s an outstanding boxer, and Floyd is the best boxer, from a boxing point-of-view. So I’d love to see the match-up with somebody as young and as aggressive and as relentless as Shawn. Relentless is the word. And who goes for it when he sees he has somebody in trouble. I as a fan would love to see that fight.”
Mayweather of course has a huge May 3 bout with Marcos Maidana first. Porter’s next bout is likely to be a defense of his title against mandatory challenger Kell Brook.
