For the second time this season, Phil Jackson met with a former Laker at halftime during a game as Knicks president. This time, it was a serious sit-down with Lamar Odom during Wednesday’s Knicks-Nets game at Madison Square Garden.
The troubled Odom, 34, is sitting out this season after being arrested over the summer on a DUI charge and spending some time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Jackson has admitted to being on “a talent hunt’’ and could look at former players familiar with the triangle offense.
Odom’s drug habit and his inability to last more than a few games with a spanish club may have derailed his NBA career completely. The meeting with Jackson was likely personal in nature, and right now that’s all Odom needs to be focused on.
