Jurors acquitted three men accused of the attempted murder of Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Mike Adams last year. Adams claims that the men were attempting to carjack him, but the three men accused Adams of being intoxicated and starting a fight with them. Adams’ blood-alcohol content was 0.185, which clearly is way over the legal limit and was the eventual demise of the prosecutions case.
The three men are Dquay Means, Jerrell Whitlock and Michael Paranay. Two were convicted of lesser charges, but the fact is that the defense was able to argue that Adams was drunk and had no clue what he was doing. Other than the fact that he was stabbed, the other glaring issue is that Adams was more than legally drunk and was attempting to operate a vehicle. The defense was able to argue that Adams was lying about the events that unfolded so as to avoid getting in trouble with the Steelers, ultimately leading to him losing his contract.
Steelers GM Kevin Colbert was in the courtroom on Tuesday, so it will be interesting to see what the organization plans to do from here with Adams.
