The Money Team has announced that Floyd will be back in the ring on September 13th. The location and opponent have not been named, but here is a list of possible opponents for Mayweather. The fight will either be in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas or Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
1- Danny Garcia
Garcia has been hinting about a move up from Junior Welterweight to Welterweight. He has been in the mix before as a Mayweather opponent, but hasn’t been that keen to step up to the plate. But with every new bout he takes, he is at risk of losing out on the Mayweather payday if he takes an L. I think he is the front runner for now.
2- Marcos Maidana
Maidana gave Mayweather a tough, rough, fouled filled fight and that might be the exact reason he doesn’t get a rematch. It isn’t that Mayweather is scared or doesn’t think he could handle Maidana again, he just probably doesn’t want to get roughed up if he doesn’t have to it.
3- Keith Thurman
Thurman has been biding his time, while knocking out opponents waiting for the Mayweather call. But, Thurman is a Clubber Lang type, meaning he is young, hungry and powerful. While he is still a little rough around the edges, the risk/reward factor isn’t in Mayweather’s favor by taking him on just yet.
4- Shawn Porter
Shawn Porter has a belt and frankly he doesn’t bring much else to the table. He is a good fighter, but isn’t well known, so he would be considered a long shot at best.
Amir Khan can’t fight in September for religious reasons and Manny Pacquiao well…..no need to go over that again.
