Rutgers QB In Jail For Allegedly Beating a Man Almost to Death (Mugshot)

Philip Nelson Rutgers Assault

Former Minnesota QB and Rutgers transfer Philip Nelson was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with an assault that left left another former football player in critical condition. According to the Star Tribune, Nelson kicked Isaac Kolstad in the head twice, leaving him unconscious:

Nelson, 20, was arrested on probable-cause assault about 2 a.m. after Mankato police patrolling the downtown entertainment district found Isaac Kolstad, 24, a former player at Minnesota State University, Mankato, unconscious after being kicked twice in the head.

Police are looking for a second man who they believe was involved but offered no details on what roles Nelson and the other man played. A recording of conversations between police and dispatchers indicates that three people at the scene said Nelson was one of the assailants.

The police are still sorting out all the facts, but a Rutgers spokesman had this to say:

“We are in the process of gathering information on the situation and reserve comment until the legal process is complete.”

Thoughts and prayers are with Issac Kolstad and his family. Hopefully he is able to pull through and recover fully.
