FIFA has confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the Luis Suarez biting incident that took place earlier today during the Uruguay-Italy Group D match. Suarez went full Mike Tyson on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini’s left shoulder, but was not assessed a foul at the time.
Uruguay officials have until June 25 to present their evidence to the FIFA disciplinary committee, and a decision must be made before Uruguay’s round of 16 match against Colombia the following day. If guilty Suarez could face a two-game ban, far less than the 7 and 10 game suspensions he received for previous biting incidents at the club level.
Whatever evidence Uruguay is able to present to help get Suarez off, I doubt it will hold up to this, the obvious bite marks on Chiellini’s shoulder.
