Michelle Wie Wins US Women’s Open; First Major of Her Career

Michelle Wie Wins Major

Michelle Wie was supposed to be the LeBron James of women’s golf. She qualified for her first major at 13, played with the men a few years later, and had all of the tools to dominate the women’s game.

Fast forward, a little over a decade removed from her first major Wie can say that she is one of the best in the world. Michelle entered today with in a tie for 1st in the US Women’s Open and never looked back in route to her first major championship. After she sunk a tough birdie putt on 17 Wie knew that she had the Major locked up. All she had to do was keep calm and finish strong.

She did just that and Wie was filled with emotion after the 18th hole. Per the NYT:

”Oh my God, I can’t believe this is happening,” Wie said.

Wie had her up and downs the past few years on tour and many people doubted that she’d ever reach this point in her career, but Michelle had faith.

”Obviously, there are moments of doubt in there,” Wie said. ”But obviously, I had so many people surrounding me. They never lost faith in me. That’s pushed me forward.”

The pressure mounts again for Wie, as people will now expect her to use her immense talent to do things never seen before in the sport of Women’s golf. I’m sure Wie is up to the challenge.
