Wizards Hire Kevin Durant’s High School Coach

NCAA Womens Basketball: Final Four-Maryland Practice

College basketball programs are big on hiring coaches they believe will give them a shot to land a top recruit.  The Washington Wizards are taking a page out of that book to try to bring the NBA’s reigning MVP home.

The Wizards have hired David Akins to be their new player development assistant.  Adkins, 50, spent the last five years as an assistant coach for the University of Maryland women’s basketball team.

Adkins was also a longtime assistant high school basketball coach at Montrose Christian where he helped mold Greivis Vasquez and Kevin Durant.

The Durant angle explains itself, and is just another added tool for the Wizards as they begin their quest to land KD 2016.
