Sam Cassell is headed to the west coast to gain a higher profile as an assistant coach. Jared Zwerling is reporting that Doc Rivers has hired the former NBA guard away from the Wizards to become his lead assistant.

Cassell spent the majority of his final three years in the NBA with the Clippers, and got his start in coaching with the Wizards while Flip Saunders was head coach.
