Many people believed that Texas A&M football was a bit overrated coming out of the Manziel/Evans era, however new starting quarterback Kenny Hill proved last night that the program was doing better than fine; and in the process, scored some lucky fans a nice FREE.99 discount on their new furniture purchases.
Hill threw for an Aggies single-game record 511 passing yards, en route to a 52-28 blowout over the favored (and 9th ranked) South Carolina Gamecocks, but this wasn’t the highlight of the story. Ashley Furniture, located in the College Station, area held a promotion from Aug. 16 through Aug. 27 where all furniture purchased within that time frame would be rendered FREE if the Aggies beat the Gamecocks by 10 points or more; a smart bet considering A&M was considered were considered an 11-point underdog.
“We’ve wanted to do this for three or four years now,” store owner Mark Wilks told ESPN.com on Thursday night. “This was really good for us. We’re going to have a big check-writing party at the store.”
It isn’t all bad for Wilks though. He smartly took out an insurance policy on the promotion, which was “pretty cheap” because of the odds being so heavily stacked against Texas A&M. As a result, Wilks says his store had it’s best month of sales in the eight years it’s been open.
