UConn Huskies women’s basketball coach, Geno Auriemma thought he was doing a nice thing when he decided to call LLWS star Mo’ne Davis to congratulate her on her performance. Here’s the kicker. Davis has made no bones about her dream to one day play for the Huskies women’s team, so one of Auriemma’s rivals took exception to the phone. The school, which remains unidentified, reported Auriemma for a potential recruiting violation. Can we be anymore petty folks?
Auriemma responded to the allegations.
“That’s the world that we live in,” Auriemma told the Courant.
“I have no idea if the kid is very good, kind of good, not good at all or a superstar or can even reach the basket,” Auriemma told the Courant. “How is that a violation?”
The Huskies don’t believe Auriemma has violated any rules, since according to NCAA definition a student is not deemed a prospective student-athlete until they have entered the 9th grade. Mo’ne Davis happens to still be an 8th grader. This should all blow over with no scandal, but it’s comical how rival schools fear Auriemma and will do anything to try to bring him down.
