Former Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis is being sued by the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas for over $10,000. The former Pro Bowler, who retired after the 2010 season, is accused of not paying money owed since January of 2011.
The MGM Grand Hotel sued Portis on Friday, in Clark County Court. The casino claims Portis got two “negotiable credit instruments known as markers,” worth more than $10,000, on Jan. 31, 2011.
The casino says the markers “were presented through normal banking channels for payment” on Portis’ bank account, but they were “returned dishonored and unpaid.”
MGM Grand says it sent a written demand by certified mail on March 26, 2011, but Portis refuses to pay.
It’s unclear as to why Portis has refused to pay the MGM back. Portis is one of the players who sued the NFL over concussions, so maybe he’s just waiting for the league to cut him that check first.
