Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is addressing an ESPN Outside The Line report that the Ravens and the NFL tried to cover up Ray Rice’s assault on his wife.
In one of the first statements addressing the matter, coach John Harbaugh is quoted as saying that the organization stood behind Rice and believed him, because they felt he hit his wife in self defense.
John Harbaugh: “Ray Rice never told me that he punched her. In June, when I spoke to ESPN The Magazine, it was still my understanding that Ray had not punched her and was acting defensively.”
Darren Sanders: “Ray told me he slapped her. He denied punching her.”
This information comes from the eight page report the Ravens sent the NFL and the Baltimore Sun. Ravens brass seem hell-bent on going with the story that Rice lied about what happened in the elevator that night.
