New details are coming out on what happened leading up to the car crash that killed former Titans kicker Rob Bironas Saturday night. About 45 minutes before the crash, Rob and his wife Rachel were watching a movie with a friend. According to reports, Rob told his wife “goodnight” which she assumed meant he was heading to bed around 10:30 pm. Rachel Bironas went to look for him shortly after and couldn’t find him. Rachel tried to reach him on his phone and was unsuccessful as well as when contacting friends and relatives so she then called police to report him missing. Bironas crashed his vehicle less than a mile from their residence and may have nearly ran a woman off the road. Bironas’ wife says that had not argued that night, while he had maybe one beer through the night and was not intoxicated. She called it highly unusual for him to leave without telling her. A 911 call was made shortly before the crash by a woman who says she was almost ran off the road a mile from the Bironas’ residence.
“He is dangerous, he is drunk or something. He tried to start a fight with us,” the woman said. “My husband ran down there to see what is going on. I just want to tell the police there is something wrong with him. He is dangerous, he is drunk or he is on drugs. There is something wrong with him. He gave us a mean look. We don’t even know him, and he tried to run us off the road. We let him go on past us because he was trying to run me off the road and we don’t know who he was.”
Metro police spokesman Don Aaron had the couple return to give additional statements on Sunday. Bironas had reportedly been revving his engine at a stop light behind the couple. The couple reportedly pulled to the side of the road to let Bironas’ SUV move ahead of them. They say that the driver of the SUV stared at them, which is when the husband got out of the car. Bironas sped away and after a few moments the couple continued their drive and came upon the crash.
