With one season on the Lakers under his belt and a long-term deal inked, Young has become comfortable enough to dictate variations of his nickname to younger players. This explains why rookies in Los Angeles have been forced to call Young “Daddy Swag,” as he told NBA.com.
“Well the rooks know. Y’all gotta ask them what they gotta call me all year. When you talk to them next time, ask Jordan (Clarkson) what he calls me every morning, and ask Julius (Randle) what he calls me every morning. … It’s got a little Swag in it.
Clarkson, a second-round pick, explained his rookie chores, one of which is calling Young “Daddy Swag.”
“We call him Scrappy Feet,” Clarkson said. “Ugly feet. Naw, he told me to call him Daddy Swag…that’s a rookie duty so I’ll make sure I get it done.”
Young was reluctant to admit it, but he’s on board as well.
“I had something different,” Randle said. “Do I gotta say it?”
Don’t say it Julius, just don’t say it.
