How does an NBA player know when it’s time to call it quits for good? Former All-Star Tracy McGrady thinks he has an idea, testing his body for a possible comeback by working out with Kobe Bryant during the entire month of August.
Known for his rigorous training in the off-season, Bryant and his rival hit the gym to see if T-Mac’s body could hold up if he were to attempt an NBA comeback according to Yahoo! Sports.
Retired seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady worked out with Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant late this summer in a Southern California gymnasium, testing the preparedness of his body for a possible NBA comeback attempt.
“Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels,” McGrady told Yahoo Sports in an email Tuesday night.
Bryant and McGrady, 35, worked out three days a week for a period of time in August, several sources, including McGrady, told Yahoo.
This is an interesting development for McGrady, who officially retired last year. An NBA comeback may be a bit farfetched, the article itself stating that two teams were contacted and showed zero interest in a possible T-Mac return. But after a stint as a minor league pitcher, it seems McGrady is weighing the possibility of hitting the hardwood one more time.
Unfortunately for T-Mac fans, the swingman will be a shell of the player we grew to love during the 2000’s if he makes his way back. For Kobe, working out with McGrady was likely a reminder that when it goes, it goes. Hopefully we don’t have to see Kobe struggle through the final years of his career looking to latch on somewhere.
