WWE presented their annual Night of Champions pay-per-view last night and the event did not disappoint. With three title changes taking place on the night, the biggest match of the evening ended in controversy. Let’s take a look at what went down.
John Cena defeats Brock Lesnar via DQ, Lesnar retains WWE World Heavyweight Title
There’s definitely a big-fight feel in the air as WWE airs a promo package highlighting Lesnar’s dominance of Cena during their match at SummerSlam. The most telling was that Cena was on the mat for 11 minutes and 32 seconds of a 16 minute match. Both men make their way out to the ring and we’re ready to get the rematch going.
Once again Cena starts the match off by rushing Lesnar who takes the former Champ into the corner and drops him with multiple shoulders to the mid-section. Lesnar tries to hit a German Suplex out of the corner but Cena holds onto the ropes and counters by hitting Lesnar with two huge clotheslines that floor the Champ. Cena quickly picks Lesnar up on his shoulders and hits a huge Attitude Adjustment but can’t even get to a two-count as Lesnar kicks off at one!
Cena rushes Lesnar again but Brock grabs him and locks in a Kimura Lock on Cena who gets to the ropes and breaks the hold. Vicious knees to the mid-section from Lesnar follow before Cena attempts a comeback. He has no such luck as Lesnar hits a huge clubbing blow on the back of Cena’s head. Lesnar lcoks in the kimura again a couple more times and Cena continues to grab the ropes and break the hold.
Cena finally gets some momentum going, hitting the ropes and going for a clothesline that Lesnar ducks and counters into a huge German Suplex that has Cena literally land on the back of his head. Three straight vertical suplexes follow from Lesnar and he’s methodically taking Cena apart again. Unlike SummerSlam, Lesnar is targeting Cena’s arm to worka submission hold later in the match and get a tap-out.
Cena finally summons the strength to fight back and hits Lesnar with multiple elbows and body-blows.
Despite the vicious blows from Cena, Lesnar is able to counter AGAIN and hits what has to be the 450th German Suplex of this rivalry. This only serves to anger Lesnar who is now bleeding from the nose. The Champ takes his gloves off and now wants to deliver a bare-knuckle beating to the challenger. Cena counters however and hits a second Attitude Adjustment, but again just gets a quick two-count before Lesnar kicks out.
Lesnar gets up and tries to hit an F5 on Cena, who reverses and locks in the STF in the center of the ring. Lesnar just breaks Cena’s arms apart and puts him in another Kimura Lock, this time keeping himself between Cena and the ropes.
And then, IT’S SUPER-CENA TIME!
Cena uses his arm that’s locked in a Kimura to pick Lesnar up and slam him into the corner repeatedly to finally break the hold. Just an unbelievable show of strength from Cena in that sequence. Cena picks Lesnar up and hits ANOTHER Attitude Adjustment, but doesn’t even bother going for the pin as he locks the Champ into an STF in the center of the ring. Cena really is showing a new resolve as he tries to win his title back from Lesnar.
Lesnar tries to drag himself to the ropes but Cena pulls him into the center of the ring and locks the STF in again. The same sequence plays out yet again before Cena picks Lesnar up for a FOURTH Attitude Adjustment. Cena covers and Seth Rollins hits the ring and breaks up the pin by picking Cena apart with his brief case causing the DQ.
Rollins tosses Cena out of the ring as Lesnar is out, there could be a cash-in coming! Rollins looks back to see Lesnar regaining his composure, and hits a vicious Curb Stomp to down the Champ yet again.
Rollins calls for an official and is officially cashing in!
Before Mr. Money in the Bank can make his way into the ring Cena pulls him down and starts beating him down. Rollins escapes out of the ring and up the ramp and since the bell never officially rang, his cash-in remains intact. Cena looks on angrily at Rollins before turning around and walking straight into an F5 from the champ, who after all of the beating he just took is still capable of walking out of the ring with his belt. Wow.
The indecisive ending means that Lesnar retains, Cena looks strong in defeat, and questions arise of whether or not Lesnar was about to tap to Cena before Rollins intereference. Oh and Lesnar-Cena 3 at Survivor Series. Yay!
