This is further proof that you just can’t get on the internet and say whatever you want. Auburn police are investigating death threats made against Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn via a Twitter account.
Chief Paul Register said investigators are working to identify the owner of the Twitter account to determine if there is a credible threat.
The tweets sent from @bhayes4420 on Oct. 5 refer to cutting Malzahn’s head off ISIS-style and killing Auburn fans by setting off C-4 at Jordan-Hare.
One of the tweets states: “I woke up bumbed today bc there are still some Auburn people alive hopefully I can get that C-4 in Jordan Hare to go off.”
The original tweets have since been deleted.
Register said it appears the poster lives out of state and has a history of making rants against sporting teams.
He said it isn’t clear at this time if the threats are credible, or if they’re just rants.
“Even if it isn’t a direct threat, it does become alarming to people, and that is when it becomes our business,” he said.
Register said he hopes his investigators can question the poster, and “let him know that we don’t appreciate it.”
I really do hate the internet sometimes. People really do think they can get on and say whatever they want behind a Twitter handle without any kinds of repercussions. It’s just football man. It’s a game. Yet here you are threatening a man’s life and talking about blowing up a stadium. I don’t care if the threats are legitimate or not, these kinds of things need to stop and the people doing it need to be held responsible.
