We knew it would only be a matter of time before the fog hanging over this unfortunate situation for Heisman-hopeful Todd Gurley began to lift a bit.
According to RedditCFB‘s twitter page, Gurley may have been involved with receiving payment for his signature on a little under 300 items (at the time of this article) currently listed on Ebay:

It is interesting that compared to Gurley’s 295 listed items, Oregon QB Marcus Mariota only has 50…which is the next highest number of items listed for purchase on the site. This means that either someone is trying REALLY hard to throw dirt on Todd Gurley’s Heisman campaign, or Gurley was foolish enough to sign hundreds of pieces of memorabilia to allow others to profit off of his name and provide just cause for the NCAA to go digging all into his business.
Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports seems to support this version of events as well via his twitter page:
Hearing the investigation into #UGA star Todd Gurley is for possibly accepting extra benefits for his likeness w memorabilia brokers.

If these details are indeed proven true, it would be very disappointing to think that Todd Gurley could be so selfish, reckless, or just plain foolish to not think he’d be caught. With the amount of merchandise floating around bearing his namesake, his only saving grace could be the NCAA’s inability to prove he was paid for his actual signature; aka the Johnny Manziel escape; however with his suspension already rendered, one would assume the NCAA may already have uncovered something much more damning in this case.
